I'd give an example, but I can't think of any! I'm looking for some of the best solo careers out there, and to learn more about artists than I know now. Have at it!
My niece is a pretty good guitar player and singer already, and has her own taste in music that I'm not going to disrupt, but I want to introduce her to some underrated cool guitar players she can check out. I'm not thinking about amazing virtuoso guitar players, or old school artists, but sort of newer hip guitarists so she can see what some women are currently doing in the music scene.
I already recommended: Tash Sultana, Jessica Dobson from Deep Sea Diver, & Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes. I can't really think of anyone else at the moment.
Any song by RHCP would be my answer, but Californication is probably my favorite.
Posted to her official IG that she passed this morning from a short illness. So very sad!
I was listening to some pretty rough songs today (by accident - shuffle) that turned my emotions out a little bit. Very tough, depressing stuff. And then I heard a song by a well-known 80's pop band, Mike + The Mechanics, about a son regretting not making peace with his now deceased father, "The Living Years," and realized even sad songs can be hits and even wild pop sensations. Crazy to think a song that personal hit #1 in the US!
Are there any songs for you that affect you with their heaviness?
What song would you consider the best written that you've heard. Whether it be technical, emotional or just the thing you think when you hear it.
Mine is probably Avalanche by Leonard Cohen.
What is the most beautiful song/songs you have ever heard?
not every song will be in here but i try to add as many as i can 🥰
thanks everyone for commenting!! so many great songs. I’m trying to make the playlist 100 hours but reddit keeps crashing when i scroll to far down
Not looking for a big debate or nothing, just a general pulse from the community. They were obviously very popular and have alot of fans but are they considered greats the same way we look at Tupac or Eminem in the rap world (not saying they are as big as these 2 but respected for what they accomplished).
Edit: just to clarify, I'm asking in part because how often my freinds talk about the best and they never either bring up the Beastie Boys or have never heard of them but will mention rappers from the same era
Thoughts? Kind of wild to me that this is even possible.
Or your personal favorite. Do you know any that are really underrated or from smaller bands? Im trying to get a list of the best guitar solos across all genres of music.
Three i already love-
Comfortably numb by Pink Floyd
While my guitar gently weeps by the Beatles
Through the fire and flames by dragonforce
Edit- alright didnt expect this many answers. Thanks to everyone who commented! Got a lot of new music to listen to the next few days
Not bands who replaced the singer. But bands where different people sing certain songs. Obvious ones for me are
The Beatles - I still enjoy trying to tell who's singing. John and Paul mostly but Ringo and George sang some.
Fleetwood Mac - three different singers. Right?
The Cars - I didn't realize that two guys sang until Ric Ocasec passed away.
The Who - Pete Townsend sung some.
Or any you find extremely underrated. Live songs also
A few of my picks -
Rosetta stoned by Tool
Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Playing in the band by The Greatful Dead
There are always new one hit wonders, but, to me, many aren't worth remembering past their 15 minutes (looking at you, "Friday" and "Gangnam Style"). Are there any that you've kept listening to, or that introduced you to a band you now love?
A US Senate antitrust panel will go ahead with a hearing on the lack of competition in the country’s ticketing industry after Ticketmaster’s problems last week managing the sale of Taylor Swift tickets.
Ticketmaster’s parent company, Live Nation, has blamed presale problems for Swift’s Eras tour – the pop superstar’s first US tour in five years – on “unprecedented demand” and an effort to keep out bots run by ticket scalpers.
After registered fans struggled with glitches for hours to get tickets in the presale, and tickets quickly began appearing for resale for as much as US$22,700 (£19,100, A$33,500), Ticketmaster cancelled sales to the general public. It later claimed the demand for Swift tickets “could have filled 900 stadiums”.
Swift has said it was “excruciating” for her to watch fans struggling to secure tickets and that she had been assured Ticketmaster could handle the demand.
The chaos attracted the attention of US politicians, many of whom have voiced concerns about how dominant Ticketmaster has become after it merged with the entertainment company Live Nation in 2010.
Tennessee’s attorney general, Jonathan Skrmetti, has said he will launch a consumer protection investigation into the company after his office was bombarded with complaints from Swift fans.
The congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also criticised the merger. “Daily reminder that Ticketmaster is a monopoly, its merger with Live Nation should never have been approved, and they need to be reined in,” she tweeted. “Break them up.”
On Tuesday the senator Amy Klobuchar, who will chair the panel, and the senator Mike Lee, the top Republican on the committee, announced the Senate hearing would go ahead. They have yet to provide a date or a list of witnesses.
“The high fees, site disruptions and cancellations that customers experienced shows how Ticketmaster’s dominant market position means the company does not face any pressure to continually innovate and improve,” Klobuchar said. “We will hold a hearing on how consolidation in the live entertainment and ticketing industry harms customers and artists alike.”
Ticketmaster denied any anti-competitive practices and said it remained under a consent decree with the Department of Justice after the 2010 merger, adding there was no “evidence of systemic violations of the consent decree”.
“Ticketmaster has a significant share of the primary ticketing services market because of the large gap that exists between the quality of the Ticketmaster system and the next best primary ticketing system,” the company said.
Klobuchar was one of three lawmakers who argued in a letter on Monday that Ticketmaster and Live Nation should be broken up by the Department of Justice if any misconduct was found in an ongoing investigation.
The department has proven in recent years to be much more willing to file antitrust lawsuits against giant companies – including the ongoing December 2020 lawsuit against Google – and to fight mergers.
Do I Wanna Know? by Arctic Monkeys is the first song I think of. Also, Wicked Game by Chris Isaak, Need You Tonight by INXS and Make It Wit Chu by Queens of the Stone Age.
Lets get a steamy playlist going.
Which pre 2000s album is a pure masterpiece from start to finish and why?
What are three consecutive records by an artist that you think are truly special, I’ll add mine later on
There’s multiple photos and videos of the rapper after apparently being shot and killed. It's said to have happened outside of a club in Houston, Texas, over a dice game. Quavo was apparently present during the shooting. It's unclear as to whether he was he also shot, but media is circulating of him stood over the late rapper at the scene of the incident.
EDIT 3: Take caution when getting updates on Twitter - there are multiple NSFW sources of the aftermath of the incident.
EDIT 2: SFW sources I've been able to find:
EDIT: There are many NSFW sources on Twitter clearly showing NSFW: Takeoff's body on the floor. It's yet to hit mainstream media.
I'll continue to update with more information when it becomes available.
Would love to start a discussion around unusual voices. Whether they’re subtle or completely off the wall in their uniqueness, what “odd” voices do you consider yourself a fan of? No genre is off limits!
Lots of good options here. Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, the classic Sabbath lineup, Jimi Hendrix Experience… who is your pick?
Recently I realized that I know three different songs starting with a bell (those being For Whom The Bell Tolls from Metallica, Hells Bells from AC/DC and High Hopes from Pink Floyd) and I was wondering if there are any other.
I don't think I need to say anything else. Live Nation and Ticketmaster are criminals. Everything from their service fees to their mobile tickets are bullshit. Trying to get a refund from them is impossible. The last class action lawsuit against them I got to see 4 free concerts, hardly worth it from the aggravation. I can't wait until the next class action lawsuit I'm in.
In your opinion, which albums should everyone hear at least once?
I'm looking to broaden my musical tastes and was curious about your must-listen albums. It may be any genre; I simply want to know what you believe should be heard. It could be by unappreciated artists or well-known artists, but you must think it's a good album. It would be nice if it was accessible on Spotify, but it doesn't have to be.
So which albums, in your opinion, should everyone listen to at least once, and why?
EDIT: I fell asleep and woke up to see that this post had blown up. Thank you all very much for all of your suggestions. I'll listen to as many as I can and come back to this thread anytime I am looking for "new" music to listen to. Thank you all once again.
discussion If you go to a live concert and record the entire thing on your phone, you can eat a big bag of dicks
You can eat a big bag of dicks. Why even go if you watch the entire fucking thing through your phone? Why record it on a phone? Who the fuck is going to watch it? You realize you look like a fucking moron??
Edit: If you're saying "Why do you care how someone else enjoys the concert?!" then you can eat TWO bags of dicks.
discussion Opinion: What Elon Musk does or doesn't say about artists is as irrelevant as it is worthless and should not allowed here
Elon Musk is trash and news about him is as worthless as twitter stock.
Fuck him and his dumbass opinions: the dude bought one of the biggest yachts in the world and in his bid to do a Titanic speedrun is saying any and every stupid thing he can think of to make headlines and save face.
Let's not give them to him.
