yes unfortunately the film had to be synced to an audience recording from that show

Hey, it was 50 years ago.

The crowd doesn't look too thrilled with it tbh

it’s their first time hearing it. this was in June, the song would be released in October

Which should have no bearing on their reaction? Any crowd would be thrilled to hear a brand new song for the first time - esp one that is destined to become extremely popular.

Might be sacrilege but I honestly think it's a bad performance.

it’s not a great performance (lyrics were still a WIP..) but that’s not why they don’t clap. usually, when Zep debuted a new song the crowds would be quiet. look at the first Stairway To Heaven performance for example

I mean I wasn't jumping around and applauding the first time I heard walk by Pantera. You're just sitting there listening and realizing you're hearing something that is changing the game at that moment

Dude, the first time I heard Pantera's "Walk"? . . . I had never heard it it, and it was like "Holy shit".

u/yungdadcap Oct 02 '22

they’re playing unreleased music at a concert… the crow doesn’t know the song

No one likes that. No one has ever liked that. So.

Completely ignoring when they get hyped and start clapping at the beginning of the solo?..

That's the beginning of the song Heartbreaker from their second album that had already released at this point. They probably started clapping because they knew the song.

Doesn't really negate the comment I replied to though does it

2

u/throwaway123420lol Oct 02 '22

No, it certainly doesn't negate the original comment, indeed lmao

Idk the way they responded when Page and Bonham came back in with the riff, they seemed pretty pleased. I’m sure a lot of it was shock and wow that we’re seeing during the chorus, but they got approximately a minute or two to dig that verse riff and seems like it landed with a good number of folk. What do I know though I’m stoned lol

Y’all being silly, different times. You’ll notice crowds sitting and chilling during many old recordings even when legends are playing. This is no different.

I've seen 70s and 80s performances before. This was a chilled reaction, no doubt about it. Which is fine considering the song they played didn't seem fully fleshed out.

That’s excellent sound quality, for having been recorded inside of a paper sack during a hurricane.

Video has pretty bad audio. But led Zepplin was so far ahead of its time. So damn good

Isle of Wight? That’s a huge crowd.

The golden era of rock and roll. But not so much for video camera mics

2

u/hockeyguy1968 Oct 02 '22

the audio IS NOT FROM THE CAMERA

2

u/Brundleflyftw Oct 02 '22

The crowd was so polite.

2

u/infotekt Oct 02 '22

The crowd is not having it at all!

Heartbreaker starts and they're all in.

2

u/G-Man_Graves Oct 02 '22

Don't let the shitty audio fool you. It was a good performance, the crowd is just listening to the song.

2

u/markamuffin Oct 02 '22

Gutted we missed the intro. Epic stuff.

1

u/Whateveryousaydude7 Oct 02 '22

Jesus. Was this clip recorded inside a thermos?

1

u/extopico Oct 02 '22

Microphone was placed below the stage?

2

u/hockeyguy1968 Oct 02 '22

it was taped by someone in the audience

1

u/usually-quiet88 Oct 02 '22

The crowd didn’t exactly go nuts , it’s aged like fine wine

1

u/SuckmyBlunt545 Oct 02 '22

Not gonna lie at sounds quality that atrocious i almost just wanted to put on any good version of this. Cool to see it either way, maybe with some editing the sound can be bearable.

Sounds like crap!
