Considering she was just cast in the original as some nondescript waitress. She really came back hard and kicked ass in the sequel. It's pretty dedicated on her part.

Edit: text to speech spelling error fixed

The physical change in her makes the change in attitude so much more believable.

Back when female leads were well written and well executed. Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver are the goats.

26

u/CantFindMyWallet Oct 02 '22

James Cameron loves moms

22

u/Tenpat Oct 02 '22

Right? Feminists are all 'misogynists hate strong women leads'. What we hate is bad movies.

Present a well written and filmed action movie with a well written woman lead and we will eat it up.

The Mary Sues they present to us in recent movies are not interesting. Sarah Conners and Ripley were flawed and interesting characters who earned their wins.

Rey, Captain Marvel, and pretty much every lead woman character in the last 15 or so years has been boring, super strong, and perfect and won all the time, i.e. Mary Sue.

And it is not like we expect men to be the big hero protectors all the time. Every dude in Alien died to the monster. Kyle Reese dies trying to kill the terminator but wounds it enough that Sarah could kill it off. She killed it using an industrial press and not some innate woman power.

Terminator 2 Sarah was even better. Her time in a mental ward had clearly affected her. She was flawed but awesome. If modern producers and writers could clearly understand that concept modern female heroes would be so much better.

Annihilation came out at the same time as the new "all leading lady cast" Ghostbusters. Annihilation also had an all female cast but no one cared because it's a perfectly fine movie with appropriate casting.

Or they were all traumatized by the bear and forgot the movie existed.

1

u/Denziloshamen Oct 02 '22

Annihilation was boring, I didn’t realise it was an all female lead cast because the film just didn’t interest me in the slightest. But if it did, and it was done well, I also shouldn’t realise it’s an all female lead cast. It should just be natural, as soon as gender or sexuality or race is a focus point then it ceases to feel like it’s natural and is just ticking a box or making a point. Just give us good bloody films without an agenda.

5

u/Fatshortstack Oct 02 '22

Exactly! Disney has just been a dumpster fire. That Mulan for example, they took everything interesting about Mulan and ruined it. Mulan was a story about a girl put in an extraordinary situation, trying to save her father, and learning how to train, and through many struggles comes out on top. In the live action she is just inherently op with super human powers, how is any supposed to identify with that? Mulan the animation was imo one of Disney's best films.

And to go on your point about all the dudes dying, take Predator for example, Arnold and his team were the elite of the elite, and Predator fucked them up, Arnold only escaped through cunning and luck after taking a beating. I wished the new movie revolved around the brother. Who is Disney's target audience anyway with crap? Are teenage girls going to flock to see the new Predator movie? Or is it 30+ dude who grew up watching Predator movie? I've got 2 daughters can they couldn't give af about watching Predator.

I couldn't give af about who plays what roles, just make decent movies again and forget what ever agenda you have.

2

u/xLastStarFighter Oct 02 '22

Sarah Connor's evaluation scene was such a top notch performance!

3

u/ladykansas Oct 02 '22

Ridley (Signourney Weaver's character from Alien) wasn't written "to be a female character" necessarily. The casting choice to cast a woman in the role was quite avant garde at the time, to my understanding.

1

u/Fatshortstack Oct 02 '22

Yes that's what I've also read. That being said, I couldn't imagine the movies any other way.

89

u/radraze2kx Oct 02 '22

"came back hard"? she literally picked the locks to her cuffs AND the door with a paperclip, like FOR REAL. Not movie magic. Linda Hamilton is fucking God tier.

7

u/Dillweed999 Oct 02 '22

I understand almost all standard issue (ie non-sexy) handcuffs are pretty easy to pick with a paper clip. I'm sure it's much harder when you're holding it with your teeth, but it's one of the reasons the cops almost away cuff behind your back.

3

u/elpajaroquemamais Oct 02 '22

It wasn’t a prop door or prop cuffs?

15

u/ChooglinOnDown Oct 02 '22

non-discrip

3

u/Least_or_Greatest1 Oct 02 '22

She was like a gangsta trailer park chick in terminator 2..

Those deltiods

87

u/Jawwaad127 Oct 02 '22

I actually just watched this again about a week ago and I can say, even being over 30 years old, it still holds up as a solid movie. The CGI is a little outdated but not too bad.

52

u/hardtofindagoodname Oct 02 '22

Luckily it wasn't the CGI that held it all together. It was just everything.. Arnie, the memorable one-liners, the big budget that allowed them to blow up real stuff (instead of using CGI) and of course, the GnR soundtrack.

11

u/stykface Oct 02 '22

Considering the CGI was made from processes in the late 80s and very early 90s, the CGI is indeed outdated but still very well done that stands the test of time. I remember watching the documentary on this and almost everything (the programs and techniques) was created from scratch.

5

u/Revolutionary-Tie126 Oct 02 '22

One of the premier ILM ( industrial light and magic) movies

7

u/purpleefilthh Oct 02 '22

It doesn't "hold up" ...it's fucking awesome. The helicopter scenes are epic.

Have you even seen the chase scene that starts in the mall and ends in the concrete water canal? Not to mention….well, so many other iconic scenes

-4

u/D34th_gr1nd Oct 02 '22

Have you ever seen a Richard Pryor film? There are a ton of classics that are 30 years and older. T2 is my favorite superhero movie from the year I was born.

2

u/ChooglinOnDown Oct 02 '22

T2 is my favorite superhero movie from the year I was born.

But you'll get fucked up if someone else says that it still holds up?

-2

u/D34th_gr1nd Oct 02 '22

I was saying somethings that are 30 years and older still hold up, the commener phrased it like that was a rare thing.

2

u/kaya-jamtastic Oct 02 '22

I see now…you’re not saying T2 sucks you’re saying that many older movies hold up? Agreed

3

u/D34th_gr1nd Oct 02 '22

I grew up on 80s and 90s action film, I rewatch them because they hold up.

2

u/kaya-jamtastic Oct 02 '22

Sure, Richard Pryor films slap too, don’t recall saying they don’t

1

u/D34th_gr1nd Oct 02 '22

I know, the commenter was saying it T2 Holds up even after 30 years, like that's super rare.

74

u/Ok_Discipline_5026 Oct 02 '22

Next to Sigourney Weaver she's in my top two for female action stars.

9

u/Alt-Ctrl Oct 02 '22

Definitely

7

u/Fucked8Ways Oct 02 '22

We definitely need more like this.

17

u/ticker_101 Oct 02 '22

I was in love with her in this movie.

49

u/bluemax_137 Oct 02 '22

That scene she was doing pullups on the legs of the bedframe.... pure gold

25

u/DblHockeyStixCoolJ Oct 02 '22

That barefoot hop-skip she does washed in blue light after locking up the guard

8

u/bluemax_137 Oct 02 '22

So graceful, powerful and her sense of purpose dancing towards the exit.

Underrated movie.

2

u/NotThePersona Oct 03 '22

How is this movie in any way shape or form underrated? Its classed as an all time great, one of the few sequels to be better then the first (And the first was also great) and is iconic in so many ways.

1

u/yousyveshughs Oct 03 '22

Everything that has ever happened is underrated

1

u/Twerking4theTweakend Oct 02 '22

Dat strength-to-mass ratio...

5

u/ticker_101 Oct 02 '22

It'll be with me till the day I die.

5

u/shockingdevelopment Oct 02 '22

And the guard who licked her got extra night stick clubbing

8

u/bluemax_137 Oct 02 '22

That part alludes to the physical, sexual and psychological torture that many mental patients suffer in institutions. Now that I know better, I appreciate that ass kicking scene even more.

1

u/shockingdevelopment Oct 03 '22

I mean it doesn't just suggest it it's a straight depiction of it. I was even more angered by her meetings where there's no right answer for her.

If she sticks to the terminator story she's crazy so she stays locked up, if she denies it she's gaming them so she stays locked up.

14

u/OracleCam Oct 02 '22

One of the best character arcs, change my mind

12

u/ScootScott Oct 02 '22

You can watch her weekly on tv now. The show is called resident alien.

12

u/ferretinmypants Oct 02 '22

She is so good in Resident Alien. I love the way she has aged naturally and actually has wrinkles. Still a badass.

2

u/AllTheCommonSense Oct 02 '22

Didn’t know that

29

u/Comfortable-Loss4084 Oct 02 '22

She is my neighbor,, the nicest woman but it’s very startling to run into Sara Conner when your drunk at night

8

u/CantFindMyWallet Oct 02 '22

Please tell her that I love her the next time you see her, thank you

92

u/heard_enough_crap Oct 02 '22

thats old school? sigh.

8

u/1353- Oct 02 '22

30 years ago? Yea.

11

u/tlk0153 Oct 02 '22

Lol. I feel for you buddy. I am in the same boat as you. Don’t know why were you downvoted

17

u/heard_enough_crap Oct 02 '22

and the 'kids' at work laugh at me when I tell them my first program was written on punch cards (I have the first card mounted on my wall), and I used to repair magnetic core memory with a soldering iron.

4

u/Drobones Oct 02 '22

Lol that’s around when I was born and I feel old these days

1

u/Zokar49111 Oct 02 '22

38th anniversary of its release coming up this month.

4

u/CantFindMyWallet Oct 02 '22

This image is from T2, which came out in July of 1991.

I have pubes older than that :-(

7

u/Rampage_900 Oct 02 '22

No fate but what we make for ourselves ☠️

19

u/YungChiliGoose Oct 02 '22

This was a sexual awakening for me as a young boy.

7

u/PushtheRiver33 Oct 02 '22

Same for me, but as a teen girl!

5

u/Manulukero Oct 02 '22

This is what a well written female character looks like!

4

u/kwxl Oct 02 '22

Bad Ass

3

u/extopico Oct 02 '22

She looks so amazing.

3

u/dyjcdthvchj Oct 02 '22

There is so much hotness in that pic

8

u/Ornery_Reaction_548 Oct 02 '22

Smoking! Also, she has a cigarette.

3

u/willbeach8890 Oct 02 '22

What is hanging from her belt??

... besides all of our attention ;)

26

u/chromaticluxury Oct 02 '22 edited Oct 06 '22

Hot then, still hot now. The only thing un-hot now is the cigarette

Edit: it was time appropriate and context appropriate for when this movie was made and the atmosphere they were creating. I only meant that with changing times, smoking is less cool these days.

23

u/bluemax_137 Oct 02 '22

Under the tremedous pressure she was facing, i think a little nicotine is in order.

17

u/Mostly_Sane_ Oct 02 '22

IIRC, there was some parents' group a while back that wanted Hollywood to re-release everything in sanitized versions (by photoshopping the cigarettes out). Not surprisingly, Hollywood told them to F off. 😬

10

u/HolySonnetX Oct 02 '22

Did you see the re-release of ET which replaced handguns with walkie talkies?

4

u/Trav3lingman Oct 02 '22

So stupid to do that. The reality is cops point guns at damn near everything. They sure as hell are going blast away at an alien.

2

u/Mostly_Sane_ Oct 02 '22

Yes, and iirc, they also edited out the scene of rifles being raised. Kinda took out the whole fear feeling of the scene, which was partly why E.T. lifted off in the first place. 🤦🏻‍♂️

22

u/colhoesentalados Oct 02 '22

No, movies need more cigarettes. Smoking used to be cool. Might even say smoking is old school cool

5

u/DCWalt Oct 02 '22

Agreed, especially for a movie, they add a lot of atmosphere

-3

u/aClearCrystal Oct 02 '22

They also normalize nicotine addiction

-7

u/phredbull Oct 02 '22

Cigarettes make anyone look cooler.

11

u/waysuperyuck Oct 02 '22

There’s nothing cool about lung cancer and heart disease.

(I sound like my parents)

8

u/initforthesummers Oct 02 '22

Both can be true!

1

u/SerJaimeRegrets Oct 02 '22

Until, like my sister, they’re dying of stage 4 lung cancer. That’s not so cool.

1

u/willbeach8890 Oct 02 '22

It's fiction that was made in the past

-7

u/Led_Zeppole_73 Oct 02 '22

You know what they say about women that smoke…easy like Sunday ‘mornin.

5

u/Husbandaru Oct 02 '22

Nothing better than stamped sheet metal and 7.62

2

u/Lonely-Connection-37 Oct 02 '22

No bra sells the 7.62🤘🏿🤘🏿

17

u/Ok_Cicada_7258567 Oct 02 '22

Ah my gay awakening 🥰 Also the best action movie ever made, and I am not at all biased Ofc…

14

u/spacecadet84 Oct 02 '22

This look also awakened a lot of straight boys to their proclivity for fit, strong women!

Or, uh, so I've heard ...

5

u/MuricanDeathTriangle Oct 02 '22

You’ve been watching women’s rock climbing comps haven’t you…

2

u/CantFindMyWallet Oct 02 '22

Honestly it really might be the best pure action movie ever.

2

u/Fuckoffassholes Oct 02 '22

But it's not just pure action. It's got family drama, sci-fi, philosophy.. total package.

2

u/CantFindMyWallet Oct 03 '22

Sure, but if you're looking for the movie with the best action, I don't think there's a better choice than T2.

2

u/rollduptrips Oct 02 '22

Such a cool transition from her role in Terminator

2

u/wifespissed Oct 02 '22

Just fuckin' yoked.

2

u/Top_File_8547 Oct 02 '22

Has anyone seen her in Resident Alien? She gives a great performance.

2

u/sskoog Oct 02 '22

I always went with the interpretation that she [Sarah] had been sufficiently traumatized by her T1 ordeal [not least the child-messiah revelation] such that she "tried to make herself into a Terminator" to the fullest degree possible.

This element really helps to sell the non-Arnie bits of the film. They even sort of carry it forward to T6 [Dark Fate], though there's not much else good in that one.

4

u/uwotm81012002 Oct 02 '22

One of three female protagonists allowed to exist.

1

u/OldSamVimes Oct 02 '22

I remember that movie. It's the one where she kicks the volcanos ass.

1

u/ifrit05 Oct 02 '22

God damn she's so badass. I'm so glad they only released two films, they tell a perfect story arc. /s

1

u/AveryhandsomeChilean Oct 02 '22

I had a crush on her as a kid

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '22

UNIT

1

u/konstantine73 Oct 02 '22

Looks like she had the same trainer as Stallone in first blood, "we need you John Rambo".

1

u/Karmachinery Oct 02 '22

One of my absolute favorite movies. She was so good in it. Completely took Sarah to the next level.

1

u/usernmtkn Oct 02 '22

Nice AK.

1

u/DreamsInNyquil Oct 02 '22

She’s such a bad ass

1

u/rcb4th Oct 02 '22

Stacked, jacked and ready to pack you know what I'm saying. Sarah Connor fucks

1

u/L__V Oct 02 '22

If you grew up with a Diet Mom in 80s/90s, Linda was goals.

1

u/Great_Dwarf Oct 02 '22

So bad ass

1

u/VeroCdeW Oct 02 '22

Super hot!

1

u/Roadguy Oct 02 '22

When you look a pre-2000 movies you will notice that all the real bad-ass characters always had a smoke in their hand or lips. Seems to be more of an American thing.

1

u/Adeus_Ayrton Oct 02 '22

Oldschool yo momma.

This was just yesterday.

1

u/mattgoldey Oct 02 '22

First rated R movie I ever saw in the theater. Got carded when I took my date to see it. We were just barely old enough to get in.

1

u/Maddym1960 Oct 03 '22

The chin ups were everything.

1

u/Clown_Car_Addict Oct 03 '22

I can describe her with one word....hawt!

-1

u/Patient-Bar-9129 Oct 02 '22

She looks like she fucks you, not the other way around.

-6

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '22

I found her annoying

-14

u/big65 Oct 02 '22

Anorexia is not cool nor sexy.

6

u/LiberLilith Oct 02 '22

I agree, but a low body fat percentage and slim, muscular physique ≠ anorexia.

Let's not also forget that people have different body types. Some people are naturally slim, some, the opposite. Let's not demonize any body type. There seems to be a recent trend where being overweight is seen as normal and healthy (it isn't), but being slim and athletic is seen as unhealthy and unrealistic (it also isn't).

I've no doubt she trained very hard for this role and potentially added weight due to the increase in muscle mass, despite losing some body fat. Context is key here as well, this is a woman living on the edge of a nervous breakdown, determined to escape a mental facility to protect her son. She eats, sleeps and breathes getting into shape, transforming herself into a soldier.

Personally, I'd rather watch the lithe, muscular Sarah Connor we have in T2, rather than an overweight or "normal" version of a woman that we see held up and praised today.

-6

u/big65 Oct 02 '22

She was more normal in the first film and looked much better and healthier than the second.

4

u/LiberLilith Oct 02 '22

She was more "normal" looking in the first film, probably due to the fact she was a waitress and not yet on her journey to become John's protector and mentor. She still has a slim frame in T1 - she has a naturally slim body type, or at least, exercises regularly to maintain it.

Healthier is debatable though; you can be healthy and ripped, you can also take it too far and lose too much body fat. I'd say in this picture she looks slim, healthy and muscular.

I never said she looks normal here, she looks like she's trained and turned herself into a soldier. That's not what most normal people attempt to achieve or want to keep up with every day of their lives.

-4

u/big65 Oct 02 '22

That level of slim isn't healthy, it's a dangerous lack of healthy body fat. Lose enough body fat and normal muscle will look ripped like this. Do some people find it attractive? Yes and that's why it's posted here but to me it's not attractive in the least and doesn't look good on a woman or a man for that matter.

6

u/LiberLilith Oct 02 '22

That level of slim isn't healthy

That level of slim can be healthy for some body types though. My ex had a visible six pack, which is very rare for most female bodies, but she ate well and was very healthy. She exercised and had a lot of nervous energy, she was naturally slim and then trained as well, so her body was like Linda's is here.

Most people won't live that way and will never diet and exercise in order to achieve that kind of physique, and that's perfectly fine. Doesn't mean that people who can achieve it are unhealthy and abusing themselves.

it's a dangerous lack of healthy body fat.

People can and do take it too far, and you're right, dropping your body fat percentage too low can be very dangerous, but Linda Hamilton is clearly not anywhere near that level here. I'd hasten to add, she probably didn't maintain this physique after filming had wrapped.

to me it's not attractive in the least and doesn't look good on a woman or a man for that matter.

Your personal preference for body types is kind of irrelevant here. You shouldn't judge everyone's physique based on what you think is achievable or normal.

I've been a bodybuilder for over 30 years at this point, so I am well aware of how my body looks and feels and what is healthy and what isn't, for me. And that's the key issue, what's healthy and normal for me, might be the complete opposite for someone else with a different body type.

8

u/Verity41 Oct 02 '22

Anorexia? She’s ripped. It actually takes a lot of calories for a WOMAN to pack on muscle like that and have that definition. Muscles need to be worked and fed protein. Anorexics don’t look like this.

-8

u/big65 Oct 02 '22

Anorexic, she's not ripped

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '22

3

Nah people were fat in 91

-4

u/campionmusic51 Oct 02 '22

…and before people stopped featuring in major motion pictures.

0

u/SpankYourCat Oct 02 '22

She’s sporting ocular pat-down sunglasses, Mac & Charlie would be proud!
